About Salary Breakdown
Salary Breakdown tells you how much of your salary you actually keep after income tax, National Insurance, student loan and pension. It does that one job, and we try to do it properly.
Who's behind it
Made and looked after by an independent developer in the UK. It's a small independent project, with no company behind it, no sponsors and no adverts.
How we keep the numbers right
- Every rate and threshold comes from an official GOV.UK or Scottish Government page. You can see each one, with a link, on the methodology and sources page.
- We last checked the rates on 17 October 2026, for the 2026/27 tax year.
- We test the calculations against figures worked out by hand, and against a real payslip.
- Where we've simplified something, we say so. The methodology page lists what we cover and what we leave out.
What it can't do
It's an estimate for people who are employed, and it isn't tax advice. It works with the tax code and pension set-up you tell it, but it doesn't know about benefits in kind or any other income. If your payslip is more than a few pounds away from our figure, the usual culprits are a different tax code, or a pension that's set up differently from what you entered.

Spotted a mistake?
We'd really like to know. Tell us here. When a rate needs fixing, we check it against the official source and update the "last checked" date.
